Controllers, engineers and technical staff at Platov International Airport in Rostov-On-Don have begun training on the expanded current stand of the Galaxy Air Traffic Control Automation System (Galaxy ATC AS), developed and manufactured by JSC Azimut, the leading Russian supplier of ATM equipment.
Platov international airport is the first airport in the post-Soviet history of Russia being built from scratch. It is planned to put the airport system into operation in December 2017. Implementation of the project for the construction of the airport is being carried out as part of preparation for the 2018 Football World Cup.
The Galaxy ATC AS integrated controller simulator will allow Rostov ground-service airmen to learn the basic technical characteristics of the Galaxy and master the necessary job skills: the current integrated stand for the interface and functionality is fully consistent with the equipment installed at the working positions.
«In 2012, the Kazan ATS centre was equipped by us with the first-ever Galaxy. Since then, the ATC AS has been improved: now the Galaxy is capable of receiving surveillance data not only from conventional sources, primary and secondary radars, but also from state-of-the-art monopulse radars with S-mode and multilateration surveillance systems. The possibility of successful reception of data from new sources can be seen in our systems installed in the Crimea, Saint-Petersburg and Makhachkala. An updated version of the system has also been developed to be supplied to Egypt and Indonesia», - said Asker Saidov, CEO at JSC Azimut.
The use of digital model of the Earth PZ-90.11 for all calculations and the 4D trajectory prediction of aircraft movement allow to implement the high-precision determination of location coordinates of the aircraft in the Galaxy ATC AS, and to operate it without restrictions within the serviced territory. A particular advantage of the system is the ability to be quickly put into operation, which significantly exceeds accepted standards. All the application software of the system was developed by Russian specialists.
