At the airport of Iturup, the Sakhalin region, a new generation instrument landing system and DMEs, designed and produced by the leading Russian supplier of air traffic management equipment Azimut, have been put into operation.
The airport of Iturup (one of the Kuril Ridge islands) that was granted the status of an international one in the spring of 2017 is one of the seven airports operating in the Sakhalin region. In 2014, JSC Azimut had already taken part in fitting the airport with air navigation equipment. Specialists of the Russian company producing radio aids for flight support commissioned a standalone NDB on a heading of 305, far and near beacons and landing systems SP-200 on a heading of 125, and the azimuthal-distance measuring equipment of short-range navigation RMA90/RMD90, and automatic direction finder DF-2000. Additionally, Azimut took an active part in the modernization of the airfield infrastructure of other air hubs in the Far East, supplying air navigation equipment to the airports of Khabarovsk, Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, Nikolaevsk-on-Amur, Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky.
ILS2700 is a new generation instrument landing system, equipped with a distance measuring radio beacon DME/NL2700; it is weatherproof, and, in accordance with the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) standards, is recognized to be a non-visual aid of precision approach. The system facilitates the pilot to execute the approach and landing in the presence of clouds or low visibility conditions. These radio aids of flight support, produced by JSC Azimut, are successfully operated at the airports of Volgograd, Vladikavkaz, Anapa and Ekaterinburg.
All the works on commissioning the air navigation equipment are made in the interests of FSUE «State ATM Corporation». JSC Azimut specialists carried out installation, starting-up and adjustment works, as well as the briefing of operating personnel, ground tests and introductory flight checks.
