At Strigino International Airport in the Nizhny Novgorod region, radio navigation aids, designed and produced by the leading Russian supplier of air traffic management equipment JSC Azimut, have been put into operation.
In 2018, the international airport of Nizhny Novgorod, serving international and domestic flights and being the main alternate airport to the Moscow aviation hub, will receive the participants and guests of the Football World Cup. As part of preparation for the world championship, the airfield infrastructure of the airport is being renovated. The project is being implemented under the Federal Target Program «Development of the transport system of Russia for the years 2010-2020».
JSC Azimut fitted the airport with a non-directional beacon (NDB) RMP-200 and a new generation instrument landing system (ILS) ILS2700 equipped with distance measuring equipment (DME) DME/NL2700.
The non-directional beacon (NDB), produced by AZIMUT and successfully operating at the airports of Makhachkala, Bratsk, Norilsk, Astrakhan, Novosibirsk, Chita, and Nizhneudinsk, is recommended for use on civil aerodromes and on the airfields of local airlines as one of the aids of indicating the landing heading.
The instrument landing system, developed by JSC Azimut, is a weatherproof one, and, in accordance with the standards of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), it is recognized to be a non-visual aid of precision approach. The system facilitates the pilot to execute approach and landing in the presence of clouds or low visibility conditions. The identical radio navigation aids, produced by AZIMUT, are installed at the airports of Volgograd, Vladikavkaz, Anapa, and Ekaterinburg.
All the works on putting the air navigation equipment into operation are made in the interests of FSUE «State ATM Corporation». JSC Azimut specialists carried out installation, starting-up and adjustment works, as well as the briefing of operating personnel, ground tests and introductory flight checks.
JSC Azimut with the assistance of Rostec State Corporation develops, manufactures commercially, and supplies, on a turnkey basis, civil aviation enterprises with the facilities of communication, navigation, landing, surveillance, and air traffic control automation, as well as develops and implements integrated projects of equipping and re-equipping aerodromes and air traffic control centres.
