Azimut, JSC with the support of the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade, has developed a new Monopulse Secondary Surveillance Radar (MSSR), MVRL2700, for airspace surveillance in Terminal Maneuvering Areas (TMA). MSSR has successfully passed certification tests, demonstrating an operational range twice as high as the required parameters.
The development, patented by the Federal Service for Intellectual Property (“Rospatent”), is designed for Air Traffic Control. The MSSR determines aircraft coordinates with the use of the secondary channel in TMA and on-air routes, that is outside the designated aerodrome responsibility zones. Switching between modes is performed by SW with button press. All collected data is automatically transmitted to ATC Centers.
The certification tests were performed at the Penza ATC Center, a branch of Central Volga Air Navigation. All characteristics of the new radar were tested with the participation of independent experts.
The new development can be used at aerodromes with different climatic zones. The radar antenna operates reliably in within temperature range from minus 50 °C to +50 °C.
“The MVRL-2700 (MSSR) has demonstrated impressive results in aerodrome mode: the coverage range exceeded 400 km, while the basic requirement was at least 160 km. Therefore, the demonstrated performance brings the product to the highest level not only in Russia, but worldwide,” said Director of R&D Project Management at Azimut
