Sukhum Airport Becomes Driver of Abkhazia's Development Thanks to Azimut Equipment by Rostec State Corporation

The large-scale reconstruction of the airport in the capital of Abkhazia, carried out with the participation of Rostec State Corporation's company Azimut, has allowed the air harbor to become a key transport hub and a driver of socio-economic development for the republic. This was stated by Abkhaz Prime Minister Vladimir Delba in a letter of gratitude to Azimut and its Director General Asker Saidov.

As part of the project, Azimut equipped Sukhum Airport with 18 different types of navigation, radar, and communication equipment. These include the Galaxy air traffic control automation complex, a radio direction finder, a radar, an instrument landing system, and radio beacons.

Furthermore, various radio stations, a voice communication system, an information recording and playback complex, as well as modular control positions and a control simulator were supplied.

The Russian equipment has enabled the automation of air traffic control at the Abkhaz air harbor at a high technological level. Additionally, according to the Abkhaz Prime Minister, it ensures the safe reception of various types of aircraft at any time of day and in any meteorological conditions, significantly enhancing flight safety and airport operational efficiency.

The republic's government also expressed confidence in the continuation of fruitful cooperation and hope that this successful project will become a starting point for the implementation of new joint initiatives.

The opening of the reconstructed Sukhum Airport took place in May 2025, when the first flight from Russia in 32 years landed there.
